Safaricom Business, in a collaborative effort with the Embassy of Peru to Kenya, has officially donated KES 500,000 to Gacharage Comprehensive School in Ruaka, Kiambu County. This strategic partnership is designed to improve physical learning conditions and promote equitable access to education for the community’s students.
The financial contribution was channeled through Safaricom’s recently concluded Shangwe@25 Business Promotion initiative. The donation reflects a shared vision between the telecommunications leader and international diplomats to advance quality education and unlock new opportunities for youth.
The funds have been immediately utilized to address pressing needs at the school, directly benefiting at least 1,280 learners. The school acquired 100 new desks, alleviating classroom crowding and providing students with a proper, comfortable space to study. Additionally, a dedicated portion of the funds was used to provide sanitary supplies for girls, which is a crucial step in eliminating biological and economic barriers that disproportionately hinder female school attendance and academic performance.
Speaking at the official handover event, Romy Tincopa, Peru’s Ambassador to Kenya, highlighted the deeper significance of the bilateral partnership. She emphasized that the joint initiative goes beyond material support, representing a steadfast commitment to hope, dignity, and opportunity for young learners. For Safaricom Business, the investment aligns seamlessly with its core corporate mandate to transform lives by prioritizing access to quality educational resources and laying the groundwork for stronger communities and sustainable, long-term national development.
