RSwitch has officially launched its digital financial inclusion campaign, #TwagiyeKashiresi, taking digital finance directly to the people. In a targeted two-day outreach effort, the campaign engaged residents and local businesses in the specific Kigali communities of Nyabugogo and Gisozi Agakiriro, marking a significant push toward a cashless economy in Rwanda’s capital.
Rather than limiting conversations about digital finance to formal institutions, the initiative prioritizes on-the-ground engagement in the exact locations where daily, high-volume transactions occur. During the outreach, the focus was on practical, hands-on education, providing attendees with live demonstrations of digital payment processes, interactive Q&A sessions to address the community’s concerns, and on-the-spot account setup for both personal and merchant accounts.
A core component of the campaign is the promotion of eKash, a platform that bridges the gap between banks and mobile money providers. This interoperability is designed to support easier and more secure digital money transfers across different financial networks. By bringing digital payments directly to the communities, the initiative provides businesses and individuals with a vital opportunity to learn how these systems work in practice. The ultimate goal is to build public confidence, helping users transition smoothly away from traditional cash-based transactions.
The #TwagiyeKashiresi campaign represents a major coordinated effort across Rwanda’s financial and technological sectors. The initiative brings together a coalition of key stakeholders, including the National Bank of Rwanda, the Ministry of ICT & Innovation, the Rwanda ICT Chamber, RSwitch, and local banks and mobile money operators. By converging on key economic hubs within Kigali, these organizations are working together to expand access to digital financial services and foster a more inclusive, tech-driven economy.
