Raxio Group Secures Over US$380 Million Amid 600% Surge in African Data Centre Demand

Amsterdam: TECHz – News Desk

Africa’s digital landscape is approaching a critical inflection point. Driven by rapid cloud migration, accelerating digital adoption, and the emergence of intensive AI workloads, the continent’s data centre needs are skyrocketing. McKinsey projects that installed capacity must expand from today’s 0.4 gigawatts to between 1.5 and 2.2 gigawatts by 2030 – a massive growth phase expected to unlock a minimum of $20 billion in new value-chain revenue.

Capitalizing on this momentum, Raxio Group – Africa’s most expansive data centre platform – reported a staggering sixfold increase in contracted power during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. As market demand evolves, the company is fielding a growing pipeline of opportunities for deployments of 10 megawatts or more. In response, Raxio is actively increasing its rack densities to accommodate these high-performance computing and AI requirements.

To support this next phase of hyper-growth, Raxio’s committed capital has officially surpassed US380 million. This financial boost comes as existing shareholders Roha and Meridiam increase their equity support, elevating the company’s capital base from a previous US350 million.

This fresh equity injection builds upon a robust financial foundation, which includes a US$100 million financing package secured last year from the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC). Raxio’s growth is also supported by debt funding from Proparco and the Emerging Africa & Asia Infrastructure Fund (EAAIF).

Expanding the Continent’s Widest Network:
Raxio has built more greenfield data centres in Africa than any other independent operator. Its current footprint spans Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Uganda, with a new expansion into Tanzania under development.

All Raxio facilities operate under a colocation, carrier-neutral model, allowing organizations to interconnect with various network providers to maximize resilience, choice, and flexibility. The facilities are Tier III certified, ensuring top-tier reliability. Furthermore, the company designs its sites to world-class standards for water and power efficiency and is continuously exploring ways to integrate renewable energy solutions alongside traditional grid infrastructure.

Shareholder and Executive Confidence:
Company leadership and key investors remain highly confident in Raxio’s trajectory and the continent’s digital future:
• Robert Skjodt, CEO of Raxio Group: Skjodt emphasized that accelerating demand requires world-class infrastructure. “As we enter the next phase of growth, this additional capital strengthens our ability to capture these opportunities and continue delivering world-class, carrier-neutral infrastructure for our customers.”
• Brooks Washington, Founder and CEO of Roha: Washington noted that Raxio is perfectly positioned to lead in Africa’s fastest-growing digital markets. “Since we launched Raxio, the company’s success has continued to create opportunities at the forefront of digital infrastructure in Africa, with even more room to grow than we initially planned.”
• Mete Saracoglu, COO for Africa at Meridiam: Saracoglu cited strong faith in Raxio’s management and long-term strategy. “Raxio has established a leading platform with strong growth characteristics, and we see significant opportunity to scale the business further as market demand continues to evolve.”
