As digital credit increasingly bridges the financial gap for millions, MTN Mobile Money (U) Limited has officially launched a nationwide financial literacy campaign focused on responsible borrowing. Announced on August 19, 2026, at the bustling Kalerwe Market in Kampala, this initiative aims to empower Ugandans to manage their digital loans strategically and build robust credit habits.
Operating under the vibrant tagline “Borrow. Pay Back. Neela Neela.”, the campaign is designed to reach a wide demographic, guiding consumers, farmers, and local traders on how to leverage MTN MoMo Loans for genuine economic empowerment rather than falling into debt traps.
Digital lending has become a lifeline for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and individuals traditionally underserved by commercial banks. Through the MoMo Loan Marketplace, MTN partners with financial institutions to offer accessible credit products like MoKash, MoPesa, and XtraCash. Jemima Kariuki, Chief Product Officer for MTN MoMo Uganda, emphasized that credit should be a tool for growth, not a source of anxiety.
To ensure customers maximize these benefits, MTN’s educational drive focuses on three core principles: making timely repayments to avoid penalties, understanding how consistent repayment records build credit scores, and demonstrating financial discipline to unlock higher credit limits for business expansion or emergencies.
Over the coming months, MTN MoMo will roll out this critical financial education across television and radio broadcasts, targeted digital platforms, and on-the-ground community activations. By equipping users with the knowledge to make informed decisions, MTN MoMo is reinforcing its commitment to financial inclusion and sustainable economic growth in Uganda.
