Airtel Africa Accelerates Women’s Financial Inclusion

The push to bridge the economic gender gap in Africa has received significant momentum as the Airtel Africa Foundation deepens its commitment to women’s financial inclusion. In alignment with its core FEED framework – focusing on Financial Inclusion, Education, Environmental Sustainability, and Digital Inclusion – the Foundation is tackling systemic barriers by equipping women with the vital tools needed to navigate the digital economy.

Recent milestones demonstrate a localized, hands-on approach to this economic empowerment. In February 2026, the Foundation officially launched a comprehensive ten-day financial inclusion training program for women entrepreneurs in Niger’s Zinder Region, focusing on business management, financial planning, and leveraging digital tools. This initiative builds upon earlier momentum, including the August 2025 rollout of the Tech for Her program designed to upskill African women, and the November 2025 launch of a specialized tech fellowship empowering 100 young women in the Democratic Republic of Congo to pursue careers in STEM.

By intertwining digital literacy with financial education, the organization is moving beyond basic connectivity to translate digital access into tangible economic mobility. Women remain disproportionately impacted by financial exclusion across sub-Saharan Africa, and these targeted programs ensure that female entrepreneurs have the capacity to make informed financial decisions, secure investments, and sustainably scale their operations. As the Foundation progresses toward its stated goal of improving 10 million lives across the continent by 2030, its continued investment in women’s financial independence is set to play a foundational role in building more robust, inclusive local economies.
