Zanzibar City: TECHzMagazine – News Desk
In a move to accelerate the archipelago’s digital transformation, Zanzibar’s President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has reaffirmed the Revolutionary Government’s commitment to expanding digital infrastructure through a strengthened partnership with the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation Limited (TTCL).
During an official introductory meeting at the State House in Zanzibar City on March 23, 2026, President Mwinyi hosted newly appointed TTCL Board Chairperson David Nchimbi and Director General CPA Moremi Marwa, alongside other senior corporation officials. The discussions centered on reinforcing institutional ties and scaling up modern communication services to support Zanzibar’s rapid economic development.
President Mwinyi emphasized that robust digital connectivity is a foundational pillar for both public service delivery and private sector growth. By modernizing its telecommunications framework, Zanzibar aims to position itself as an inclusive and sustainable digital economy. Reliable internet and digital platforms are essential for driving efficiency in core sectors such as healthcare, education, business, and tourism. This expanded infrastructure will connect the islands with the mainland and integrate the country into global communication networks, ensuring remote and historically underserved communities gain access to reliable services. Furthermore, these digital transformations are central to Zanzibar’s pursuit of a prosperous blue economy, enabling streamlined trade, e-commerce, and better monitoring systems.
TTCL leadership acknowledged the corporation’s critical role in realizing Zanzibar’s ambitions. Board Chairperson David Nchimbi expressed gratitude for the ongoing cooperation with the Revolutionary Government, noting that their shared vision has already been instrumental in advancing the nation’s communication landscape. Nchimbi pledged TTCL’s continued investment in cutting-edge technologies and expanded service coverage. As the state-owned telecommunications provider, TTCL’s rollout of reliable broadband and fiber-optic networks is expected to catalyze innovation, support remote learning ecosystems, and create a highly conducive environment for tech investments.
