Cairo: TECHz Magazine – News Desk

Vodafone Business and Cassava Technologies have announced a strategic partnership to develop Egypt’s first sovereign AI factory, fundamentally enhancing the nation’s capacity for locally hosted artificial intelligence.

The facility aims to position Egypt as a premier regional hub for advanced data processing and cloud computing, directly supporting the country’s broader digital transformation goals. The partnership leverages Cassava Technologies’ status as Africa’s first NVIDIA cloud partner to bring accelerated computing technologies to the Egyptian market.

By offering GPU-as-a-Service, the AI factory allows businesses and government entities to access high-performance computing for AI model training and deployment without needing to build or purchase the underlying hardware themselves. All data hosting and processing will occur locally within Egypt, ensuring strict data sovereignty, complying with regulatory requirements, and allowing organizations to maintain tight control over sensitive information.

This localized infrastructure also reduces the cybersecurity risks associated with moving critical data across international borders. Additionally, the partnership provides organizations with specialized training programs within the NVIDIA ecosystem to build local AI expertise and improve system deployment.

Mahmoud El-Khatib, Vice President of Enterprise Business at Vodafone Egypt, highlighted that providing GPU-as-a-Service enables organizations to access computing capabilities faster, fostering a competitive digital economy and attracting new investments. Ahmed El Beheiry, Group Chief Technology & AI Officer and CEO of Cassava AI, emphasized the strategic importance of the launch, noting that the goal is to ensure African businesses are architects of global technology rather than mere consumers.

This launch represents a cornerstone project within Vodafone Egypt’s broader strategy to invest over EGP 20 billion in the current fiscal year. This builds on an extensive operational history spanning 28 years with investments exceeding EGP 125 billion. The sovereign AI factory is slated to work in tandem with a broader infrastructure push in the region, operating alongside new scalable data center projects to effectively serve enterprise cloud services and heavy digital workloads.
