The Federal Government of Nigeria has soft-launched the Government Service Portal (GSP), an integrated digital platform designed to provide citizens and businesses with a single gateway to public services. Available at services.gov.ng, the portal aims to streamline digital governance, eliminate bureaucratic friction, and modernise service delivery across the country.
Unveiled in Abuja by Galaxy Backbone (GBB) – the national digital infrastructure enterprise – in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the initiative addresses the challenge of fragmented public services. Previously, citizens had to navigate multiple disconnected websites operated by separate Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). By implementing a secure single sign-on system, the platform removes the requirement for users to repeatedly submit information across different government bodies.
Managing Director and CEO of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the portal as the foundation of a unified digital ecosystem where citizens and businesses can easily discover, access, and consume public services from a single trusted location. The platform serves as a key pillar of the “Building a Foundation Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria” project and aligns directly with the nation’s e-Government Master Plan 2.0 and Digital Public Infrastructure framework, working alongside existing digital identity, data exchange, and payment systems. FMCIDE Director of E-Government Johnson Bareyei emphasized that the portal demonstrates how inter-agency collaboration can deliver faster, more accessible public services.
The soft launch functions as an operational pilot to facilitate the onboarding of additional government institutions and optimize system integrations prior to a nationwide rollout. Initial User Acceptance Testing conducted across all six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory provided positive early metrics among 184 participants: 88% successfully located required services, over 80% rated the system as easy to navigate, 71% rated performance speed as fast, and 91% indicated they would use the portal again. Continuous technical adjustments are currently underway to resolve early feedback regarding sign-up routines, image capture, and one-time password dispatch times.
