Niger is making significant strides toward technological self-sufficiency with the ongoing construction of a new local electronics assembly plant in Hamdallaye, located in the Tillabéri region. Scheduled to open by the end of October 2026, the upcoming DHY Technologie facility will assemble smartphones, computers, and tablets to meet the country’s growing digital needs.
On Thursday, August 20, 2026, a high-level government delegation visited the construction site to assess the project’s advancement. The delegation, led by Minister of Communication and Information Technology Adji Ali Salatou and Minister of Technical and Vocational Education Farmo Moumouni, joined officials from the National Agency for the Promotion of Private Investments in Niger and the National Information Systems Security Agency.
Authorities observed rapid progress, noting that the plant has reached up to 63% completion after just six months of work. Government officials expressed their satisfaction with the pace of construction and commended the project’s promoter, Ibrahim Tahirou Aissata, for championing national entrepreneurship.
The establishment of the facility aligns with a broader push across African nations to produce digital devices locally. By assembling hardware domestically, Niger aims to make technology significantly more affordable, reduce its heavy reliance on imported electronic equipment, and create local jobs while building domestic technical expertise.
To emphasize the alignment of industrial growth with sustainability, the ministerial visit concluded with a tree-planting exercise on the factory grounds, highlighting the government’s intention to integrate environmental consciousness directly into Niger’s expanding technological infrastructure.
