MTN Expands Digital Hubs Across South Sudan

Kigali: TECHz Magazine – News Desk

MTN South Sudan is accelerating its mission to bridge the digital divide by establishing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hubs in every state across the country. Currently operating facilities in eight states, the telecom operator is prioritizing youth empowerment and nationwide digital inclusion, complementing a robust network reach that already covers approximately 85% of the population.

The overarching goal is to ensure equitable digital access that transforms everyday connectivity into tangible economic opportunities. The latest expansion includes a newly launched ICT Skills Hub in Aweil, the capital of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, which officially opened on August 31, 2026. Handed over to the local Youth Union, the facility is designed to foster entrepreneurship and offer digital scholarships. The Aweil center expects to graduate new batches of students every three months following comprehensive computer training and skills development.

This launch follows a similar recent deployment in Rumbek, where MTN partnered with local education sectors to advance digital inclusion and expand community access to modern technology. Together, these centers function as collaborative workspaces that prepare young people for the demands of the modern digital economy.

This nationwide rollout reinforces the company’s broader strategy that meaningful digital inclusion requires more than just raw network connectivity; it demands the knowledge, confidence, and tools to navigate digital spaces effectively. MTN South Sudan CEO Mapula Bodibe emphasized that these ongoing deployments go far beyond simply opening physical facilities.

The core objective is to open doors to new possibilities by ensuring communities possess the digital literacy required to solve national challenges and drive sustainable economic growth. Local government officials, including Hon. Gabriel Deng Yei, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State’s Information and Communication Minister, have publicly commended the investments, highlighting them as essential pillars for advancing regional education and long-term entrepreneurship.
