MTN South Africa is intensifying its stakeholder engagements to drive the country’s digital agenda forward, holding high-level discussions with the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi.
Led by MTN South Africa CEO Ferdi Moolman and the company’s Executive Committee, the meeting focused squarely on the current state of South Africa’s telecommunications sector. Both parties addressed critical industry challenges and explored emerging opportunities designed to fast-track digital inclusion.
During the engagements, MTN emphasized that cross-sector collaboration remains critical to addressing barriers to connectivity. The primary focus areas included encouraging capital injection to build and maintain resilient digital infrastructure, ensuring that more citizens and rural communities can actively benefit from the digital transformation, and fostering a regulatory environment that supports broad-based economic participation.
These executive discussions follow closely on the heels of a targeted oversight visit by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies. On July 27, 2026, lawmakers visited MTN’s headquarters in Roodepoort, Gauteng, to evaluate the company’s strategic vision and network infrastructure investments. The committee scrutinized the sector’s broader developments, including efforts to expand access to digital services and universal connectivity initiatives.
Crucially, the parliamentary committee used the opportunity to address ongoing consumer concerns, inquiring about the reservations mobile network operators have regarding the implementation of ICASA’s amended End-User and Subscriber Service Charter Regulations. A focal point of these inquiries was the widely welcomed regulatory provisions relating to the expiry of data.
By proactively aligning with both the Ministry and parliamentary oversight bodies, MTN South Africa aims to solidify partnerships that will expand connectivity, encourage sustained investment, and ultimately build a more inclusive digital economy for all South Africans.
