Gabon has officially inaugurated its Electronic Document Management (GED) project in Libreville, marking a pivotal step in the digital transformation of its public services. The platform is designed to drastically reduce the government’s reliance on paper, improve the traceability of official correspondence, and accelerate administrative processing.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of Digital Economy under Minister Marc-Alexandre Doumba, the initiative is a core component of the broader “Gabon Digital” program. The reform aligns with national directives to modernize an administration historically dependent on physical documentation. To ensure a smooth transition, the system is currently undergoing a pilot phase within the Secretariat General of the Government (SGG) and the Directorate-General for Examinations and Competitions (DGEC).
Moving away from isolated IT solutions, the GED system establishes a shared, secure, and interoperable digital foundation for the state. It simplifies the retrieval of administrative files, ensures long-term digital archiving, and optimizes inter-departmental workflows. Following the pilot phase, the platform will be rolled out across all public departments to finalize Gabon’s transition to a modern, accessible, and digitally cohesive state apparatus.
