Egypt has officially inaugurated a new digital licensing service for public establishments, integrated directly into the Egypt Digital Platform.
Unveiled during a ceremony at the Ministry of Local Development and Environment headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, the initiative aims to streamline business operations, enhance government transparency, and support the nation’s broader digital transformation agenda. The platform is a collaborative development between the Ministry of Local Development and Environment, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, highlighted that the new digital interface represents a major step in facilitating government procedures for citizens and investors. By unifying licensing protocols across all Egyptian governorates, the platform is designed to significantly reduce processing times and improve administrative transparency.
Applicants can now monitor the status of their licensing requests electronically in real time. Additionally, the system introduces provisional permits, allowing eligible businesses to legally commence operations while pending final administrative approvals are completed. By lowering barriers to entry and simplifying bureaucracy, the initiative strategically aims to integrate informal businesses into Egypt’s formal economy.
A critical technological milestone of this launch is the active integration of Egypt’s “Digital Vault.” According to Eng. Raafat Hindi, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the public establishment licensing service is the first government service to benefit from the vault’s full capabilities. The Digital Vault enables citizens and business owners to store, access, and reuse authenticated digital documents during service delivery. This infrastructure drastically reduces the reliance on physical paperwork and supports Egypt’s transition toward a paperless government model built on secure data exchange.
This new system builds upon Egypt’s existing digital foundations, which include the government digital switch, digital identity frameworks, and electronic signatures. The broader Egypt Digital Platform currently serves over 12 million users and hosts more than 240 distinct digital services.
The private sector has signaled strong support for the modernization effort. Ahmed El-Wakil, Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, welcomed the initiative, stating that the chambers will actively support awareness campaigns to encourage business owners to adopt the new digital workflow.
