Cape Town-based artificial intelligence startup Verascient has successfully secured $1.2 million (approximately R19.2 million to R19.5 million) in its inaugural funding round. Founded by South African entrepreneurs Keagan Stokoe and Emile Ferreira, the startup aims to tackle the widespread knowledge gap that causes enterprise AI implementations to fail. The oversubscribed seed round was led by Founder Collective, with participation from Andrena Ventures, Cambridge Enterprise, Summit Ventures, and several angel investors.
As companies race to implement artificial intelligence, many initiatives fall short because generic AI tools do not understand the specific, operational reality of individual businesses. Critical organizational knowledge is typically siloed and scattered across multiple platforms such as Gmail, Google Drive, Salesforce, Slack, and Monday.com. Verascient is positioning itself as the operating system for AI-native companies by connecting a company’s scattered records into a centralized, company-wide temporal knowledge graph.
This infrastructure acts as a living record of business workflows, ensuring that every connected AI agent can inherit the business’s full operational context. To ensure trust, Verascient tracks what is currently true so models avoid outdated files, links every AI output directly back to its original source for easy verification, and strictly honors existing IT permissions so agents only access authorized data.
By making organizational history queryable and actionable, Verascient is targeting data-heavy sectors where reconstructing decisions and context is critical. In investment and consulting, the platform aggregates scattered deal contexts and deliverables in seconds while keeping firm knowledge securely separated. For legal and insurance firms, it connects historical matter files and underwriting correspondence so reasoning can be reconstructed and cited. Additionally, in logistics and manufacturing, Verascient brings spreadsheets, carrier portals, and supplier correspondence into a single graph where shipping updates and part-change decisions can be instantly queried and traced.
Armed with its new capital, Verascient is actively recruiting to expand its engineering capabilities and drive global growth. The founders are currently hunting for elite AI-native talent across South Africa, the UK, and the US, primarily hiring for forward-deployed engineers to work directly with clients, alongside core AI engineers. Operating on a philosophy of fewer, better, faster, Verascient aims to maintain small, elite teams with rapid development cycles to build the underlying infrastructure that tomorrow’s AI-native companies will run on.
