On August 29, 2026, the Sultanate of Oman officially launched the National Cyber Security Strategy 2026 – 2030, a comprehensive five-year framework designed to secure the nation’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure. Authored by the Cyber Defence Centre in collaboration with public and private sector partners, the strategy safeguards national data assets, digital identity systems, and essential services in direct alignment with the digital economy goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The multi-year strategy establishes unified national defense standards based on five foundational pillars. It focuses on cybersecurity governance to update legislation and enforce accountability across critical sectors, cyber resilience to upgrade infrastructure against ransomware and systemic disruptions, and capacity building to cultivate a specialized Omani technical workforce. It further emphasizes cyber cooperation to expand public-private and international partnerships, alongside leveraging the cyber economy to develop a self-sustaining sector capable of generating local businesses and jobs.
The Cyber Defence Centre, acting as the competent authority for electronic defense under Royal Decree No. 64/2020, will oversee the framework’s execution from its Muscat headquarters through 2030. The strategy mandates periodic reviews to ensure defensive measures adapt to emerging technological developments.
Immediate national priorities focus on protecting vital assets like telecommunications and energy grids from malicious interference, expanding academic partnerships to reduce reliance on external vendors, improving real-time threat monitoring, and creating a reliable cyberspace that supports safe e-commerce and uninterrupted digital government services. By embedding cybersecurity as foundational infrastructure, Oman aims to solidify its position as a highly resilient and trusted digital hub in the Middle East.
