Today, August 28, 2026, marks a transformative moment for urban mobility in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area as E-Bus Xpress Kiira Ltd (EBX) officially launches its scheduled, electric public transport service in Kira Municipality.
The deployment features 15 state-of-the-art Kayoola EVS buses, developed domestically by Kiira Motors Corporation. These 12-meter, low-floor city buses carry up to 90 passengers, offering a 300-kilometer range alongside premium comfort features like advanced HVAC air conditioning, ergonomic seating, free onboard Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports.
To modernize the commuter experience, EBX has integrated robust cashless ticketing in alignment with MTN Uganda’s “The Power of MoMo” campaign. Commuters can tap and pay effortlessly, with fares starting at highly accessible price points of UGX 800 for adults and UGX 400 for students. This shift eliminates the hassle of finding change, drastically reduces boarding times, and allows operators to track revenue transparently in real time.
Breaking away from informal transit models, these 15 electric buses are distributed across three dedicated, scheduled feeder routes connecting Kira and its expanding residential environs directly to the Ntinda Hub and Kampala. This launch stands as a clear demonstration of Uganda’s growing technological sovereignty, seamlessly combining homegrown engineering with robust digital payment infrastructure to accelerate the shift toward a cleaner, fully connected urban transport network.
