Snowflake has announced a five-year, $6 billion infrastructure commitment to Amazon Web Services (AWS), marking the largest cloud agreement in the company’s 11-year history. This massive investment reflects a fundamental shift in the enterprise sector, as AI deployments transition from short-term experimental pilots into persistent, production-grade workloads that require continuous computational power.
To support these advanced “agentic AI” systems – which actively reason over data and coordinate workflows – Snowflake will heavily utilize AWS’s custom Arm-based Graviton processors alongside GPU-accelerated EC2 instances. This hardware strategy allows Snowflake to run its traditional data warehousing operations cost-effectively on Graviton, while dedicating high-powered GPU resources to intensive AI model training and inference.
Beyond pure compute power, the expanded partnership is designed to bring AI directly to where enterprise data already resides. By deepening product integrations and expanding joint initiatives on the AWS Marketplace – where Snowflake recently surpassed $7 billion in lifetime sales – the two companies are enabling customers to build and deploy generative AI applications securely on governed data, entirely avoiding the risk and complexity of moving sensitive information between different platforms.
