Zanzibar City: TECHz – News Desk

Yas Tanzania, through its broadband division Yas Fiber, has announced a major investment initiative aimed at transforming Zanzibar’s digital infrastructure. The company signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Zanzibar Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Agency (ZICTIA) and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to expand fiber connectivity across the islands of Unguja and Pemba.

Under the agreement, Yas Fiber plans to invest approximately TZS 300 billion over the next 20 years to develop and extend fiber-optic infrastructure throughout Zanzibar. The long-term investment demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting the region’s digital transformation agenda and improving access to reliable high-speed internet services.

A key objective of the project is to connect up to 100,000 households within the first three years of implementation. By expanding broadband coverage, the initiative seeks to increase digital inclusion and ensure that more residents, businesses, and institutions have access to modern communication services.

The expanded fiber network is expected to support several sectors, including government services, education, healthcare, and business development. Improved connectivity can facilitate e-government services, enable digital learning opportunities, enhance healthcare delivery through technology, and create an environment that encourages innovation and economic growth.

Yas Fiber emphasized its role as a long-term digital partner for Zanzibar, highlighting its commitment to delivering world-class connectivity infrastructure. The company believes that increased access to reliable internet services will unlock new opportunities for communities, businesses, and future generations while contributing to the overall socioeconomic development of Zanzibar.
