Reme-D Secures $1.45M to Scale Diagnostics

Cairo: TECHz – News Desk

Egyptian healthtech startup Reme-D has successfully closed a $1.45 million Pre-Series A funding round to scale the production of its temperature-resilient molecular diagnostic tests. The funding round was led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund, Africa Health Ventures, and other investors. This capital injection builds upon a prior $500,000 investment from the Global Innovation Fund in April 2026.

The new funds will be utilized to significantly boost manufacturing capacity, broaden the company’s regional footprint across the Middle East and Africa, and diversify its portfolio of diagnostic products. Founded by Salma Tammam, Reme-D focuses on developing and manufacturing affordable molecular diagnostic tests for diseases such as tuberculosis (TB), HIV, hepatitis, and human papillomavirus (HPV).

A major barrier to healthcare access in many parts of Africa and the Global South is the reliance on fragile cold-chain logistics. By leveraging nanotechnology and lyophilization techniques, Reme-D has engineered molecular tests that remain stable at higher room temperatures. This innovation eliminates the need for strict refrigeration, allowing tests to be easily distributed to remote areas with limited healthcare infrastructure.

“Success means that patients in Africa and the Global South are no longer blocked from life-altering disease diagnosis by cost or availability of an advanced molecular test in their area,” stated Salma Tammam, Founder and CEO of Reme-D.

Since launching operations, the Cairo-based company has commercialized 30 diagnostic products and supplied more than 550,000 tests to public and private laboratories, hospitals, and research institutions across Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan. Demonstrating the practical application of its technology, Reme-D recently equipped a custom-built, solar-powered mobile laboratory commissioned by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Egypt office. This mobile facility assists the Egyptian Ministry of Health in monitoring vector-borne diseases in remote regions that lack permanent laboratory infrastructure. To protect its proprietary advancements, the company has also filed a US patent application.

Driven by its recent growth, Reme-D’s team has expanded from five to nearly 50 employees. The startup is preparing to relocate to a new 1,500-square-meter manufacturing facility in Cairo, a move that will allow it to increase production capacity tenfold. The latest funding round will also accelerate the development of new diagnostic kits for genetic diseases and cancer. By manufacturing these advanced tests locally, Reme-D addresses the continent’s heavy reliance on imported medical supplies, reducing costs and insulating local healthcare systems from global supply chain disruptions.

Mohamed Hussain, Principal at Anara Impact Capital, highlighted the strategic value of this approach: “Reme-D has already demonstrated that high-quality molecular diagnostics can be developed and manufactured locally, and we are excited to support the team as they scale their impact across MEA and beyond.”
