MTN Uganda’s mobile money platform, MoMo, has rewarded two parents in Mbale for consistently paying school fees through the service, as part of an ongoing campaign aimed at encouraging digital school fee payments across the country.
During a visit to Mbale last week, MTN Uganda officials met with the winners and handed over their prizes. Speaking at the event, Allan Njagala, MTN Uganda’s Regional Commercial Head, encouraged parents to use MoMo for school fee payments, describing it as a convenient and reliable way to manage education expenses. He noted that every school fees payment made through MoMo automatically qualifies customers for a draw where they can win a full year of school fees, while participating schools have a chance to win a school van.
The company also highlighted new financial solutions available through the platform. Immaculate Tukei, MTN Uganda’s BankTech Specialist, said parents can now access school fees loans directly via MoMo, helping families bridge funding gaps and ensure that children’s education continues uninterrupted. The loan facility allows parents to pay fees for up to four children in a single day, with loan amounts ranging from UGX 200,000 to UGX 3.5 million.
One of the beneficiaries, Saddiqi Loke, shared his appreciation for the support, saying the award, which covers school fees for three academic terms, would significantly ease the financial burden on his family. His experience underscored the positive impact such initiatives can have on parents facing rising education costs.
MTN Uganda continues to encourage customers to use the MoMo App or dial 16580# to make school fee payments. The company says every payment made through the platform is automatically entered into the promotion, giving more parents the opportunity to win educational support while benefiting from the convenience of digital payments.
