Egypt Inaugurates OPPO Smartphone Factory in Egypt under $50 Million Investment Plan

Johannesburg: TECHz – News Desk

Egypt has taken another major stride in its drive to localize high-tech manufacturing with the inauguration of the OPPO mobile phone factory in the Tenth of Ramadan City. The new facility, established under a $50 million investment plan, was officially opened by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, accompanied by Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and senior officials from both the Egyptian government and OPPO.

The factory’s opening represents a milestone in the “Egypt Makes Electronics” presidential initiative, which aims to position electronics manufacturing as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and export expansion. The initiative seeks to reduce dependence on imports, enhance Egypt’s role in global supply chains, and create thousands of high-value employment opportunities for engineers, technicians, and skilled workers.

The OPPO factory, which spans 24,000 square meters, currently employs around 2,000 Egyptians, including engineers, quality specialists, and production staff trained to international standards. The plant is equipped with 17 production lines, with plans to increase to 20 lines by early 2026, enabling a total production capacity of 500,000 units per month—equivalent to around 5 million smartphones per year. Current production models include the Reno12, Reno13, Reno14, A5 Pro, and A6 Pro series, all manufactured under the same quality benchmarks applied in OPPO’s global facilities.

The project also reflects a strong public–private partnership between the Egyptian government and international investors. By introducing a mobile phone governance system, Egypt has enhanced transparency and regulatory compliance, making the country increasingly attractive to global manufacturers. As a result, Egypt now hosts 15 international mobile brands producing up to 20 million units annually with total investments of about $200 million.

Beyond production, the factory is set to play a vital role in boosting exports to regional markets. OPPO plans to begin exporting devices from Egypt to Arab and African countries by the end of next year, reinforcing Egypt’s status as a regional hub for smart technology and electronics manufacturing. The company also intends to introduce new product lines for wearables, including smartwatches, fitness bands, and wireless earphones, as part of its long-term development plan.

The factory’s establishment follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2022 between OPPO and the Information Technology Industry Development Authority (ITIDA). It stands as one of the initiative’s most tangible achievements, demonstrating how Egypt’s electronics strategy is translating into real industrial investment and skilled employment opportunities.

In addition to its manufacturing operations, OPPO is investing in after-sales service and customer experience, ensuring high-quality local support and long-term brand trust. With only a small team of 15 Chinese experts providing technical oversight, the majority of production and management is handled by Egyptian professionals, reflecting the growing depth of local expertise.

The opening of the OPPO factory marks a significant addition to Egypt’s industrial landscape—merging innovation, technology, and human capital to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen the nation’s role in the global electronics industry. It exemplifies how coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors can drive sustainable growth, economic diversification, and technological leadership in the region.
