Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has secured a $300 million commitment from U.S.-based technology and cybersecurity firm Cybastion to accelerate Senegal’s digital transformation. Announced during President Faye’s strategic engagements with American business leaders in Washington, D.C., the landmark agreement targets critical infrastructure and capability enhancements across Senegal’s technology sector.
The targeted mobilization will fund the development of state-of-the-art data centers to modernize digital public services and deploy robust cybersecurity frameworks to fight cybercrime and protect personal data. The partnership also prioritizes capacity building and technology transfer to strengthen national digital skills, fortify Senegal’s technological sovereignty, and create highly skilled employment opportunities for the country’s youth.
A defining feature of this commitment is its deliberate focus on local empowerment. Cybastion, a firm founded by African diaspora professionals and led by cybersecurity expert Dr. Thierry Wandji, intends to heavily involve Senegal’s domestic technology ecosystem by partnering directly with local start-ups to implement these large-scale projects. This collaborative approach ensures the investment not only upgrades national infrastructure but also develops a highly competitive domestic digital market capable of attracting further international capital.
Throughout his Washington engagements, President Faye emphasized a clear economic vision, stating that his government is seeking “investment partnerships rather than donors.” He stressed that foreign investments must generate economic value, create sustainable jobs, and deliver tangible services while allowing Senegal to maintain firm national control over its strategic development priorities.
