Omani startup DeepAstra has been designated as the exclusive sovereign AI partner for Z.ai in the Sultanate, securing the rights to distribute and operate Z.ai’s advanced GLM models locally. This strategic alliance bridges global AI capabilities with strict data sovereignty, addressing a critical market gap for Omani enterprises and government institutions.
Through the Z Sovereign Partner program, Z.ai delegates its GLM models to trusted regional operators who deploy, certify, and distribute the technology within their native markets. As the exclusive operator for Oman, DeepAstra will manage this delivery, guaranteeing that all AI inference, data storage, and logging remain strictly within the country’s borders. This framework ensures that sensitive workloads from regulated sectors never cross international jurisdictions, empowering local organizations to leverage powerful language models like GLM-5.3 while maintaining full policy control and compliance.
The Z.ai partnership integrates seamlessly with the recently launched DeepAstra API, an initiative co-developed with Otech, the technology subsidiary of Omantel. This unified, locally hosted interface allows enterprises and SMEs to access multiple AI models on a pay-as-you-go basis. By mitigating the need for massive upfront infrastructure investments, the DeepAstra API lowers the barrier to entry for AI adoption, while the addition of Z.ai’s sovereign models directly addresses the compliance risks that previously deterred Omani organizations from utilizing foreign cloud-based AI services.
This localization of advanced AI infrastructure directly supports Oman Vision 2040 and the nation’s broader digital economy goals, complementing the recent Royal Decree establishing a dedicated Artificial Intelligence Special Zone in Seeb. With Otech managing local institutional adoption and DeepAstra handling model integration and governance, Oman’s public and private sectors now have a secure, sovereign foundation to move from AI experimentation to scalable enterprise deployment.
