MTN Uganda has officially relaunched the MTN Webphone with Webex, a comprehensive unified communications solution designed to bridge geographical divides for businesses, travelers, and the Ugandan diaspora. Developed in collaboration with Cisco, the global leader in video conferencing and messaging, this platform integrates voice calling, instant messaging, and online meetings into a single, accessible application.
The MTN Webphone with Webex allows users to make internet-based calls from their smartphones, tablets, or personal computers. A standout feature of the service is the allocation of a unique “032” prefix number, which enables users in the diaspora or those traveling abroad to call back to Uganda at a standard local rate of UGX 193 per minute. This cost-effective model eliminates traditional roaming charges, offering a financial lifeline for frequent business travelers, international traders, and students. Beyond standard calling, the platform functions as a full-suite collaboration tool. Users can schedule and join online video meetings, exchange files seamlessly, and maintain constant accessibility for clients globally. Because it operates over the internet, it ensures continuous business operations and connectivity as long as the user has a data connection or Wi-Fi.
The rollout of this service in Kampala aligns directly with MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy, which focuses on utilizing digital solutions to propel Uganda’s economic and technological progress and position MTN as the largest business platform on the continent. Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, emphasized that the service marks a significant milestone in providing affordable, modern connectivity to empower customers in today’s digital age. Ibrahim Senyonga, General Manager of the MTN Enterprise Business Unit, highlighted the platform’s focus on the corporate and entrepreneurial community, noting it as a critical addition to MTN’s Unified Communications portfolio designed to offer affordability and convenience for Ugandans abroad.
To access the service, customers must visit any MTN Service Center to register using an active email address alongside either an original, valid National ID for Ugandan citizens or a valid passport for foreign nationals. Once the “032” number is assigned, users can download the application via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, and accounts can be easily recharged using MTN Mobile Money via the MoMo app or USSD codes.
