Afriex, a cross-border payments infrastructure company processing over $600 million in annual payment volume, has officially partnered with Global Innovations Bank (GIB) to overhaul its global financial network.
Effective since the second quarter of 2026, the sponsor and settlement banking partnership strengthens the financial foundation supporting Afriex’s B2B PaymentsAPI. The collaboration brings accelerated settlement times, expanded regulatory support, and Global USD Account access for businesses moving money across more than 35 countries.
Originally founded as a consumer remittance platform, Y Combinator-backed Afriex has evolved into a comprehensive API-driven infrastructure powering international payments for fintechs, ecommerce platforms, payroll companies, and other financial institutions. By establishing direct banking relationships, Afriex bypasses traditional intermediary layers to drive cost-efficiency and reduce transaction latency for its clients. The GIB partnership joins a growing network of strategic alliances that includes Choice Bank in Kenya and United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Nigeria.
Leadership from both organizations highlighted the synergy driving the collaboration. “Building global payment infrastructure isn’t just about adding more corridors – it’s about building the banking foundation that makes every transaction faster, more reliable, and easier for our customers to scale,” said Tope Alabi, Founder and CEO of Afriex. Alex Goody, Chief Product Officer at Global Innovations Bank, added, “Our team has spent years solving the challenges of cross-border money movement. That experience gives us a deep appreciation for what Afriex has built, and their disciplined compliance program and strong technical infrastructure make them exactly the kind of fintech we want to help scale.”
By bridging licensed local payment rails with global banking connectivity, Afriex is cementing its position as a foundational layer for companies scaling cross-border financial products worldwide.
