The Airtel Africa Foundation (AAF) has accelerated its drive for digital inclusion and youth empowerment by awarding scholarships and distributing future-ready laptops to 23 first-year students at the University of Ilorin.
The distribution forms a core part of the AAF’s Tech Fellows programme, which supports talented students across scholarship institutions by providing them with the necessary digital tools for innovation and skills development. Going beyond basic connectivity, the initiative ensures that young learners have reliable access to software applications, digital platforms, and essential learning materials to enhance their educational and professional prospects.
To ensure the students can hit the ground running, Airtel Nigeria confirmed that the laptops are preloaded with vital software. These resources are specifically curated to support interactive learning, inspire creativity, and help the freshers develop technology-driven projects that could eventually solve real-world challenges within their local communities.
The Airtel Africa Foundation congratulated the beneficiaries, expressing strong confidence that these students will utilize the resources to build impactful, community-focused innovations.
This targeted educational support at the University of Ilorin ties directly into the Foundation’s overarching mission to transform lives across 14 African countries. Operating on four foundational pillars – Financial Inclusion, Education, Environmental Sustainability, and Digital Inclusion (FEED) – the AAF is actively pursuing an ambitious roadmap to positively impact over 10 million lives across the continent by the year 2030.
By pairing financial scholarship support with access to modern devices, this initiative highlights the growing momentum among technology companies and development organizations to actively bridge the digital skills gap and prepare Africa’s youth for the global digital economy.
