The Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Startups, in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources and Water Security and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, has launched a national open call for innovative solutions aimed at strengthening Algeria’s water sector.
The initiative seeks to mobilize startups, researchers, experts, and entrepreneurs to contribute ideas and technologies that address growing water security challenges, particularly in the context of climate change. It is designed to identify and support practical, scalable solutions that can improve water management and sustainability across the country.
As part of the program, the government will collect information on innovative projects while also building a national database of expertise in the water sector. The effort will help connect relevant stakeholders and prepare the ground for future initiatives, including incubation, acceleration, pilot testing, and technological partnerships.
The call is open to a wide range of participants, including innovative project developers, startups and scale-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, incubators, researchers, industry experts, and Algerian professionals living abroad. This inclusive approach is intended to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and the public sector.
Priority focus areas for submissions include reducing water leakage and waste, improving desalination efficiency, promoting water reuse, advancing smart irrigation and sustainable agriculture, and applying technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to water management. The initiative also encourages solutions that address climate change adaptation.
By encouraging participation from diverse stakeholders, the program aims to strengthen Algeria’s innovation ecosystem, support the development of local technologies, and enable pilot projects that can be tested and deployed in real-world conditions.
