NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi and InfraCorp CEO Dr. Lazarus Angbazo are spearheading a joint investment strategy to modernize domestic digital infrastructure. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and InfraCorp are advancing plans to operationalize a comprehensive investment framework that bridges the public and private sectors.
This collaboration is designed to build an investment-ready sovereign cloud ecosystem capable of supporting the nation’s rapidly expanding digital economy, with a primary focus on unlocking local funding, attracting foreign direct investment, and ensuring critical national data remains within Nigeria’s borders.
The engagement prioritizes actionable funding models to transition Nigeria’s sovereign cloud goals from policy to execution. By focusing on increasing private-sector participation, the alliance aims to reduce the country’s reliance on fragmented, foreign-hosted infrastructure.
The core operational objectives involve mobilizing capital to attract sustainable international investments, expanding indigenous data center capacity for local cloud service providers, and developing a highly secure, resilient infrastructure baseline that complies with stringent regulatory requirements.
This partnership aligns seamlessly with NITDA’s ongoing rollout of the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative. To support infrastructure developers, NITDA recently inaugurated a multi-stakeholder implementation taskforce designed to align regulations, eliminate bottlenecks, and establish an end-to-end certification framework.
Localizing cloud infrastructure significantly reduces capital flight by keeping service payments within the Nigerian economy, which helps ease pressure on the Naira. Furthermore, it enables regulated sectors, particularly financial institutions, to comply with data residency mandates through certified local environments while creating high-value jobs that mitigate the migration of skilled tech talent.
With these institutional frameworks taking shape, NITDA and InfraCorp are actively positioning Nigeria as a trusted, competitive hub for digital infrastructure in Africa. A centralized directory of certified local cloud service and infrastructure providers is slated for launch by October, offering enterprise and government clients trusted domestic alternatives for their critical workloads.
