Smart Africa and Uganda’s Ministry of ICT and National Guidance recently convened in Kampala to validate the nation’s Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Country Assessment. The collaborative workshop brought together regulators, entrepreneurs, and innovation hubs to identify actionable reforms that will empower local startups to build, test, and scale their solutions.
To create an enabling regulatory environment for early-stage tech companies, stakeholders are accelerating the national Startup Bill and updating existing Science, Technology, and Innovation frameworks. Priorities also include expanding regulatory sandboxes for safe product testing and leveraging public procurement to generate early revenue streams for homegrown innovators.
Operating under the Africa-Europe Digital Innovation Bridge (AEDIB 2.0), the initiative translates identified ecosystem gaps into practical support mechanisms. By aligning public institutions, academia, incubators, and investors, these foundational steps ensure Uganda’s local innovators secure the policy backing necessary to compete effectively across pan-African and European digital economies.
