Revolut has officially announced the launch of Revolut Research, a specialized unit within its Artificial Intelligence department designed to engineer native machine learning architectures. Moving away from competitors who bolt on existing third-party AI models, the global financial platform is heavily investing in in-house development to advance AI-powered financial services on a global scale.
At the center of this initiative is PRAGMA, a proprietary foundation model developed in collaboration with NVIDIA. Revolut is rebuilding its entire AI stack around this unified behavioral intelligence layer to decode complex financial behaviors in real time. Early deployments on historical data have already yielded substantial performance improvements, including a 2.3x increase in accurately identifying credit default risks, a 65% increase in fraud cases caught alongside 17% greater precision in system alerts, and a 41% boost in the relevance of product recommendations across retail and business accounts.
With over 80 million retail customers processing billions of cross-border transactions, Revolut aims to create a proprietary intelligence advantage trained on its vast global operational data. Pavel Nesterov, Head of AI at Revolut, explained that this division institutionalizes their “build, don’t bolt on” philosophy, giving engineering teams an unprecedented engine to deploy smarter features faster and provide customers with a safer, radically better financial experience. Anton Repushko, Head of Revolut Research, added that PRAGMA represents a single, unified foundation model capable of understanding the true nuance of financial behavior in real time, rather than patching together narrow, specialized models.
Beyond PRAGMA, Revolut’s advanced security algorithms currently review nearly one billion transactions each month to proactively halt fraudulent activity. The company is also rolling out front-end innovations like AIR, an in-app assistant that executes complex financial tasks in a single step for UK users. Looking forward, Revolut Research has committed to open-sourcing its technical frameworks and engaging with the scientific community at upcoming international conferences, including NVIDIA GTC and ICAIF.
