Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has inaugurated a new complex of AI-powered grain silos in Mutare, designed to store up to 56,000 tonnes of grain, according to ZBC News, a TV BRICS partner.
The modern facilities are equipped with digital monitoring systems, automated grain processing, and advanced quality control laboratories. These technologies are expected to reduce post-harvest losses, improve storage efficiency, and strengthen national food security.
“It is pleasing and a source of pride that our national agriculture capabilities and logistical and storage capacity are having a positive impact on the overall economic development of our country. The World Food Programme has expressed its readiness to collaborate with us in our quest to become a regional food production, storage and logistics hub,” said President Mnangagwa during the launch.
The initiative also marks the beginning of Zimbabwe’s Agricultural Strategy 2026 – 2030, aimed at expanding the sector and increasing farmers’ incomes. Zimbabwe continues to scale up its agricultural capacity: the area of irrigated land has already surpassed 220,000 hectares, with plans to reach 500,000 hectares by 2030.
